چکیده

Reducing drag is an excellent approach to improving truck efficiency and saving fuel. The addition of the cylinder could be alternative for reduction devices like windshield that has a similar function enhance truck’s aerodynamic performance. A numerical analysis was performed using Ansys Fluent CFD software estimate influence on truck's force. study conducted by comparing without additional above head, with windshield, variations, which round, type-I, type-D cylinders. In simulation, carried out at velocity 30 m/s k-epsilon turbulence model. grid independence test minimize errors optimize iteration time. simulation results showed I-type, D-type cylinders as reduced coefficient, achieving highest in 0.72. Modifications design can lower fuel consumption indirectly 6.95 % cylinder.

Maximum drag reduction simulation using rodlike polymers.

Simulations of maximum drag reduction (MDR) in channel flow using constitutive equations for suspensions of noninteracting rods predict a few-fold larger turbulent kinetic energy than in experiments using rodlike polymers. These differences are attributed to the neglect of interactions between polymers in the simulations. Despite these inconsistencies the simulations correctly reproduce the ess...

External Flow Analysis of a Truck for Drag Reduction

Aerodynamics of trucks and other high sided vehicles is of significant interest in reducing road side accidents due to wind loading and in improving fuel economy. Recognizing the limitations of conventional wind tunnel testing, considerable efforts have been invested in the last decade to study vehicle aerodynamics computationally. In this paper, a three-dimensional near field flow analysis has...

Understanding Practical Limits to Heavy Truck Drag Reduction

A heavy truck wind tunnel test program is currently underway at the Langley Full Scale Tunnel (LFST). Seven passive drag reducing device configurations have been evaluated on a heavy truck model with the objective of understanding the practical limits to drag reduction achievable on a modern tractor trailer through add-on devices. The configurations tested include side skirts of varying length,...

Computational Investigation of Drag Reduction on a Rotationally Oscillating Cylinder

The reduction of drag on a circular cylinder in two-dimensional incompressible ow, achieved using oscillatory body rotation, is investigated to reveal the physics responsible for the force reduction. Flow is computationally simulated at Reynolds numbers of 100, 300, and 15 000 for a small group of sinusoidal body rotations to gain an understanding of the mechanisms which can control forces in s...
